In a recent interview, Ben Carson said: “I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed...I'm telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take the guns first."

In his lame attempt to rollback his ignorant comments, Carson said: "Basically, what I said is that when tyranny occurs traditionally around the world, they try and disarm the people first. And that is exactly what happened in Germany...You know, mid- to late 30s they started a program to disarm the people and by mid- to late 40's, look what had happened."

The obvious, ridiculous implications are: 1) The US Government is trying to take people's guns away, and 2) The US will end up being like Nazi Germany if we let the government take our guns.

It's preposterous to anyone with a lick of common sense. The problem is, his supporters, the folks he's speaking to, are people who DON'T have much common sense, people who REALLY BELIEVE that a virgin gave birth, and that a snake talked, and that Noah really built an Ark and put two of every animal in the world on it, and that the world is going to end soon when Jesus comes back.

It's hard for a sane, rational person to understand that mindset. But when you look at it from a psychological standpoint, understanding that delusion is defined as: "an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder," it all makes perfect sense.

Fortunately, those people are the minority, and Carson doesn't stand a chance of winning the White House. All he does is expose the degree of ignorance that's, not only out there in our country, but within himself.
